Despite the solidarity shown by Poles and the heroic work of the medical services, for which we are extremely grateful, the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is unfortunately not letting up. Bearing in mind the health and well-being of all of us, since mid-March, Workshops of Culture in Lublin have been involved in the #stayathome initiative – we are working from home, putting together online cultural events.
However, our programme includes events which are extremely difficult to take home. Among them is Night of Culture, which was to take place on the night of June 6th / 7th. Unfortunately, the current forecasts for the development of the epidemic in our country leave no illusions. At this time, it is not possible to organise a festival gathering tens of thousands of participants in the public space. Our current situation requires radical steps. We cannot risk the health of Lublin’s residents and visitors who gladly come to our city to take part in the festivals.
In an unprecedented step, we have decided to push back Night of Culture to autumn 2020. The new date is 9-11 October but it will all depend on the epidemiological situation and sanitary regulations in Poland at the time.
The decision to change the date is not easy and requires the cooperation of several dozen institutions, organisations, companies, artists and animators involved in creating the festival’s programme. Moreover, we will make decisions based on the official announcements and recommendations of WHO and the Polish government. In view of this, we will keep you posted about the exact date of the event.
However, we already know that this Night of Culture won’t be the same as always. Autumn is not early summer. It will be colder, but also extremely tender, because after such a long time apart, we will look forward to experiencing true beauty together, side by side, as a community. Night of Culture will have even more power than before! We hope to celebrate together the return to normality that will have happened by then. In the meantime, #stayathome!
