Travelling back in time is possible, especially on nights such as Night of Culture. We will travel 100 years into the past at Kowalska Street with swing, retro motorcycles and a Victorian carousel
Despite its lovely architecture Kowalska street is rarely ever visited nowadays. This is a must spot to visit on Night of Culture. We will be transported to 1920s. We will change signboards, lightning, window shops and add vintage cars. It will become a great setting for retro dance party and photography studio. All this is made possible courtesy of artists from “Niezależna Grupa Projektowa Piękno Panie” (Eng Beauty Ladies Independent Project Group), the same who last year in partnership with Jarosław Koziara transformed Żmigród into the most romantic corner of Lublin, and maybe even Poland.
We will be introduced into the retro mood courtesy of Lublin’s Music Theatre whose members will perform the concert “I know a street in Lublin….” “Belriguardo” Old Dance Ensemble and the Lublin Open Air Village Museum will invite us to dance among colourful lights to the tunes of pre-war hits. We will revive a pre-war town. Revues will remind us that Eugeniusz Bodo debuted here and that Hanka Ordonówna performed in “Wesoły Ul” Theatre in Lublin. Next, we will hear The Mark Shepherd Swing Quartet.
Contemporary Dance Group from the University of Technology will present Swing City- parts of a show that perfectly represents the 20s. Improvisers like Innymi Słowy Impro Theatre will make sure we have fun on our retro-style street.
Kowalska Street’s special attraction will be the century-old Victorian carousel, which was stored in a barn for 50 years. It was restored by Tomasz Siemieński and used in Jan Jakub Kolski’s film “The heart and the Sweetheart, an ambassador rode it. In June it will launch especially for the citizens of Lublin.
The retro mood will also be enhanced by the “Partyzant” Vintage Motorcycle Enthusiasts’ Association, who will ride for us on this one special night
We will try our luck at tombola – a lottery where you can win, among others, a stylized session inside Roman Kravchenko’s photography workshop.
