The Magician of Lublin” depicts the stormy adventures of a wandering Jewish magician Yasha Mazur. The stormy story of the love affairs of the protagonist portrayed by Alan Arkin is both funny and touching. Even though Yasha has a lover in every town he visits, he always returns to Lublin, to his faithful wife Esther. Aside from storytelling merits, the film is a unique opportunity to see the director’s vision of Lublin that was portrayed by two German cities – Berlin and Munich.

The second film is the musical Yentl, adapted from “Yentl, the Yeshiva Boy”. The melodrama tells the story of Yentl, a young talented girl who rebels against the orthodox tradition forbidding women to learn. After the death of her father, the desire to learn pushes her to dress up as a boy and go to the yeshiva in Bychawa to study. Of course, this is just the beginning of this complex story directed by Barbara Streisand. The film won the 1983 Oscars for best director, best comedy or musical and best music with songs/adaptation.
