Over 80 outstanding artworks of Polish painting and sculpture are now displayed on a temporary exhibition in KUL Museum (Museum of the Catholic University of Lubiln). It presents an overview of artistic currents of Polish art, starting from mid-19th century, through the Young Poland period, up to the interwar period, École de Paris and the emerging avant-garde. Masters collection is of diverse themes and styles. We can find there oil paintings, pastels, drawings, bronze and plaster sculptures. Artworks’ themes are self-portraits, portraits, nudes, still life, genre painting, landscapes, studies… The artists chosen are those who had the biggest influence on shaping polish modern painting. Works of the masters from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries make up an outstanding collection of Young Poland period artworks, whose representative artists are i.a. Julian Fałat, Jan Stanisławski or Leon Wyczółkowski.

The art of the interwar period is also shown in a multi-threaded way. The exceptional paintings of artists like Eugeniusz Zak, Leopold Gottlieb, the original Mela Muter, Tadeusz Makowski, Władysław Ślewiński, or the avant-garde Leon Chwistek, completed by the sculptures of Bogusław Biegas and Xawery Dunikowski among others, present a truly varied and intriguing image of the evolution of the fine arts at that period. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to follow and appreciate the complexity and incredible richness of Polish modern art.
